Speed bumps for Ross Road
Starting in July, Ross Road will see two temporary speed bumps between Emerald and Howden Drives as part of a three-month trial traffic calming project.

Sidewalk added to bikeway project
A $92,580 grant from the 2017 BikeBC Program means a sidewalk on Dover Road between Blueback and Invermere Roads can be added to the overall Turner Road and Dover Road bikeway project.

Reviewing carriage homes
Staff will look over the current guidelines for infill design including detached secondary suites and will meet with the community and neighbourhood associations to gain feedback.

The Vancouver Island North Film Commission will receive up to $30,000 for their 2017 InFilm program.

Tourism work gets underway
The Tourism Advisory Committee has began work on forming a new entity for delivering tourism and destination marketing services for Nanaimo with establishing the committee’s terms of reference, appointing a chair (Henry Traa) and vice-chair (Jenn Houtby-Ferguson) and hiring a consultant (Twenty 31) to guide them through the process.

Changes to grant applications
A new application process was approved for the Social Development and Community Service grants. Under the new process, applications will be reviewed by staff and recommendations will be forwarded to the Finance and Audit committee then to Council for approval. A total of $85,000 is allocated each year for these grants.

Support for abandoned vessels bill
Council passed a motion to support the adoption of Bill C-352 to develop a national strategy for abandoned vessels in Coastal waters in Parliament.
