Job Summary

The City of Nanaimo is seeking a permanent full-time Traffic Signal Technician. Under the direction of the Manager, Roads & Traffic Services, the incumbent oversees the City’s traffic signal inventory and related equipment, including assembly, installation, preventive maintenance, testing and repair. The position oversees contractors, and consultants engaged in the installation, construction, and maintenance of traffic signals and related electrical equipment.

Applicants must have completed Grade 12 or equivalent, possess a valid interprovincial BC Certificate in Trades Qualification as an Electrician with a minimum of 3 years’ of experience working with traffic control electronics or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

A valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License, possession or be eligible to obtain IMSA Traffic Signal Certification (within 1 year) and possession or be eligible to obtain a Traffic Control Person Ticket (within probation period) is required.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a unionized position.  $43.39 per hour - after Probation (Jan 2020 Rate), based on a 40 hour work week.  The wage level for this position is subject to confirmation under a union/management jointly negotiated job evaluation plan. A comprehensive benefit package is included.
