Job Summary

The City of Nanaimo is seeking a permanent full-time Steno, Police Support. Responsible to the Manager, Police Support Services and under the direction of RCMP Nanaimo Detachment police supervisors, the incumbent is required to perform a variety of high level confidential/secret stenographic and clerical work of a specific nature related to police investigations, which may include disagreeable and/or disturbing topics and information.

Responsibilities include taking and transcribing dictation proficiently and the operation of standard office equipment.

Applicants must have a minimum 6 month Office Administration training program at an accredited educational institution (e.g. VIU or Sprott Shaw) and have a minimum of 2 years of clerical experience.  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Attainment and maintenance of RCMP Reliability/Security Clearance is mandatory.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a unionized position.  $34.40 per hour - after Probation (Jan 2020 Rate), based on a 35 hour work week.  A comprehensive benefit package is included. This position is based on a 35 hour work week with operations ranging between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Sunday to Saturday.
