Recreation Assistant II - Arenas (15 Temporary Part-Time Vacancies)

The City of Nanaimo is seeking 15 temporary part-time Recreation Assistant II - Arenas. Under the supervision of senior recreation staff, the incumbents will perform a variety of tasks involved with the operation of the Arena Skate Shop and assists staff with organizing a variety of ice/dry recreational activities and special events including preparing equipment, materials and supplies for public skating sessions, and assisting with the general public.

Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent and an interest in recreation and/or community service as demonstrated by volunteer work, participation or previous employment is required. Applicants must have an excellent skating ability and knowledge of skate repair, adjustment, and sharpening is an asset. A valid Emergency or Standard First Aid and CPR “C” certificates from Red Cross or St. John Ambulance are required as well as a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
Compensation and Benefits
This is a unionized position, $16.63 per hour (Jul 2016 Rate). Hours of work will be 0 – 20 hours per week. Shift work will be involved (including evenings and weekends). It is anticipated that this vacancy will be from September 2017 to March 2018.
