Job Summary

The City of Nanaimo is seeking a Manager of Building Inspections.  Reporting to the Director of Community Development, the Manager of Building Inspections is responsible for the planning, organizing, direction and control of the Building Inspections Section.  This position is designated as the City’s Chief Building Inspector and is responsible for the approval of plans and specifications and the direction of the inspection of all buildings and structures in the City of Nanaimo to ensure compliance with Building Code and bylaw requirements.  The incumbent will exercise considerable independent judgment and action in his/her daily work and only complex matters or matters of major impact or policy are referred to the Director.

Requirements

Applicants must have graduated from a recognized University with a Degree in Engineering or Architecture; or graduated from a recognized Technical Institute with a Diploma in Building or Civil Technology; or completed a Trades Qualification in Carpentry or Plumbing.  A minimum of 5 years’ related experience is required, including 3 years in a management supervisory role preferably in a municipal environment.  An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.                           

Applicants must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s licence, a membership or be eligible for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC or the Architectural Institute of BC and obtain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.

This is an Excluded position and a competitive salary and comprehensive benefit package is included.
