Job Summary

The City of Nanaimo is seeking a permanent full-time Lifeguard/Instructor. Under the general supervision of the Manager, Aquatics, Aquatic Coordinator, or Head Lifeguard, the incumbent performs lifeguard and aquatic instructional program procedures as per facility policy. Lifeguard/Instructors are responsible for the supervision and control of activities, safety standards, and cleanliness of aquatic facilities and exercises mature judgment in carrying out instructional skills and general lifeguarding duties.

Applicants must have completed Grade 10 and have the following qualifications:

  •  Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification
  • C.P.R. “C” Certification
  • National Lifeguard Certification - Pool Option
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
  • Experience teaching aquafit classes is considered an asset.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a unionized position.  $21.60 per hour - after Probation (Jan 2021 Rate), based on a 40 hour work week.  Extensive weekend and evening work may be required in addition to weekday shifts.  A comprehensive benefit package is included.
