Job Summary

The City of Nanaimo is seeking a temporary full-time GIS Technologist. Under the general direction of the Supervisor, Geographic Information Systems, the incumbent will perform a wide variety of duties to support the operation, maintenance and development of the City’s Geographic Information System (GIS). The GIS Technologist will create and maintain spatial and related tabular data, perform spatial analysis, publish electronic and hardcopy format maps. The incumbent must competently carry out and complete the work using a variety of computer assisted design (CAD), GIS and related application programs in an office or field setting.

Applicants must have a university degree in Geographic Information Systems or a related field and a minimum of 2 years’ experience with the application of GIS technology. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Membership or eligibility for membership in the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia (ASTTBC) as a Certified Technician or Applied Science Technologist is required. Applicants must also possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a unionized position. $36.14 - $38.04 per hour (Jan 2019 Rate), based on a 35 hour work week.  It is anticipated that this vacancy will be up to one year in duration.
