Job Summary

The City of Nanaimo is seeking a permanent full-time Fleet Maintenance Mechanic. Under the general direction of the Fleet Maintenance Foreman or Sub-Foreman, the incumbent performs major overhauls, minor repairs, and welding to various equipment, repairs or overhauls engine and power train component parts, carries out road tests, performs preventative maintenance inspections, signs off work as a Commercial Vehicle Inspector, services the various vehicles and equipment, and writes repair orders and parts order requests.

Applicants must have completed Grade 12 or equivalent, possession of a valid BC Trade Qualification or inter-provincial Heavy Duty Mechanic or Commercial Transport Mechanic Qualifications, a minimum of 2 years’ related experience, and possession of a valid BC Provincial Commercial Vehicle Inspector's Certificate. A valid BC Class 3 Driver’s Licence with air endorsement or ability to obtain within trial/probationary period is required.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a unionized position.  $42.32 per hour - after Probation (Jan 2022 Rate), based on a 40 hour work week.
