Job Summary

The City of Nanaimo is seeking a temporary full-time Engineering Development Technician. Under the direction of the Manager of Development Engineering or his delegate, the incumbent reviews, interprets and approves construction design related to public works, new developments and subdivisions. The Engineering Development Technician reviews and processes access and servicing permits for residential construction, liaises with other internal and external departments and agencies, and provides technical support in connection with other development related issues and departmental planning.

Applicants must have completed Grade 12 and have a diploma from a recognized technical institute in engineering, plus specialized courses related to civil engineering design. Membership or eligibility for membership in Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia (A.S.T.T.B.C.) as a Civil Technologist is required as well as 3 years’ related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered. Applicants must also possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a unionized position. $34.05 - $35.84 per hour (Jul 2016 Rate), based on a 35 hour work week.  It is anticipated that this vacancy will be up to one year in duration.
