Job Summary

The City of Nanaimo is seeking a permanent full-time Deputy Director, Financial Services. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Deputy Director, Financial Services is responsible for revenue services, financial and cost accounting, reporting, planning, developing and administering the financial planning and asset management systems of the City. The incumbent is accountable for maintaining and controlling all financial recording keeping, business and asset planning records.  The incumbent is also responsible for the preparation of financial reports and analysis, maintenance of the City’s chart of accounts, special projects of a financial nature, and providing advice and guidance on financial matters to Council and Senior Staff, as well as acting as a Financial Signing Officer.

Applicants must have a Professional Accounting Designation (CPA) or Masters of Business Administration and six years’ related experience in local government and administration, including three years’ in a management supervisory role in municipal government. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
