Job Summary

The City of Nanaimo Police Support Services Department is seeking casual Prisoner Guards.  There are no guaranteed minimum hours associated with this position.

Duties and Responsibilities

Prisoner Guards are responsible to ensure the security and safety of prisoners in accordance with RCMP and City policies and procedures including receiving and booking of prisoners; receiving, safekeeping and returning prisoner’s effects;  entering data into computerized prisoner booking and maintenance systems; completing forms; photographing prisoners; monitoring prisoners on CCTV systems and by direct observation; and feeding prisoners as required; cleaning cells and cell block; and other related duties.  


Applicants much have completed Grade 12 supplemented by Guard Training or related courses and a minimum of 3 months’ related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Applicants must have WorkSafe BC Occupational First Aid Level 1 or higher.

Attainment and maintenance of RCMP Reliability/Security Clearance is mandatory.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a unionized position starting at $29.34 per hour and evening shifts will be involved.
