Job Summary

The City of Nanaimo is seeking a temporary full-time Bylaw Enforcement Officer – Parking Patroller. Under the general direction of the Manager of Bylaw, Regulation and Security, the incumbent investigates complaints from citizens, City departments, Council and other government agencies with respect to alleged infractions of the City’s regulatory bylaws and undertakes appropriate action to gain compliance by negotiation, Council or Court. The primary focus is the delivery of parking enforcement in the downtown area.

Requirements

Applicants will have completed Grade 12 as well as courses from the Justice Institute of BC relating to criminology and investigative and conflict resolution skills (eg: Bylaw Investigative Skills 1 and 2). A minimum of 2 years’ recent related experience in the enforcement of municipal bylaws is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered. Possession of a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check are also required.  

Compensation and Benefits

This is a unionized position. $32.21 - $33.91 per hour (Jul 2016 Rate), based on a 35 hour work week.  It is anticipated that this vacancy will be up to 6 months in duration.
