Job Summary

The City of Nanaimo is seeking a temporary full-time Bylaw Enforcement Officer. Under the general direction of the Manager, Bylaw Services, the incumbent investigates complaints from citizens, City departments, Council, and other government agencies with respect to alleged infractions of the City’s regulatory bylaws and undertakes appropriate action to gain compliance by negotiation, Council, or Court.

Requirements

Applicants must have completed Grade 12 or equivalent, supplemented with successful completion of the Justice Institute of BC – Bylaw and Investigative Skills Program is required.  Applicants must have a minimum of 2 years’ directly related experience in the enforcement of municipal bylaws or a combination of knowledge and experience in other investigative fields.  An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Applicants must have a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a unionized position. $34.87 - $36.71 per hour (Jan 2020 Rate), based on a 35 hour work week.  It is anticipated that this vacancy will be up to one year in duration.
