Assistant Chief - Operations

The City of Nanaimo is seeking a permanent full-time Assistant Chief - Operations. The Assistant Chief is a member of the fire management team reporting to the Deputy Chief – Operations and plays a critical leadership role in achieving the department’s operational goals and objectives. The Assistant Chief is responsible and accountable for ensuring efficient and effective planning, co-ordinating and directing of operational activities and service delivery of assigned Platoons, which involves considerable interaction with internal and external groups.

Applicants must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Administration, Business, or another related discipline. A minimum of five years’ progressively responsible and related experience, including three years in a supervisory role is required. Applicants must be trained and experienced Fire Fighters who have demonstrated excellent leadership skills. An equivalent combination of skills and experience may be considered. Applicants must have a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence with air brake endorsement and a satisfactory Police Information Check.
Compensation and Benefits
This is an excluded position and a competitive salary and comprehensive benefit package is included. This position currently involves a Monday to Friday work schedule.
