Walk on winter Wellness Challenge

February 8 to March 19, 2021

Celebrate Vancouver Island's mild winter weather and come “Walk On” with us until the end of winter. Join Parks, Recreation and Culture and New Balance Nanaimo, on a walking journey from Nanaimo to Victoria and beyond!

  • You can walk alone or or with a friend 
  • Walking makes you HAPPY 

How it works... 

  • Track your steps each day or distance walked by using a tracking device or app of your choice (Fitbit, smartphone, smartwatch, pedometer, computer or a mobile app such as mapmywalk).  
  • Input your data each day in to the form below with number of steps or distance walked or both – you can use a Step/Km converter or roughly the number of steps taken *.000762 = number of km walked. 
  • Each Friday, your weekly progress will be collected and tallied. 
  • Each Monday, your totals will be shared on our Results Board below – a fun way to challenge your friends or challenge yourself.  
  • Feel free to join this challenge at any time between February 8 and March 13 to include your name in for our participation draws.

PRIZES! – Who doesn’t love prizes? 

Each week, a name will be drawn for our weekly prize (a gift bag filled with goodies from New Balance Nanaimo and Parks, Recreation and Culture).

New Balance Nanaimo, will be providing one lucky winner with a brand new pair of running shoes with a value of up to $200 including tax, as our grand prize at the end of this 6-week challenge.

Prizes are based on participation rather than total km's walked. The more times you input your data, the more ballots entered in for the weekly and grand prize draws.

BONUS:  If you don’t have a step tracking device – the first 20 people to email us at parksandrecreation@nanaimo.ca – will be given a pedometer to keep and use.
