Portal is a freestanding steel-framed sculpture comprised entirely of discarded ropes obtained from a third generation local log salvor. The artist removed log dogs from multi-coloured pick-up lines and then spliced a selection of these short 3-ply nylon and polysteel ropes together over two base layers obtained from one large continuous piece of tow-line. The reconguration of everyday, used materials has been an important aspect of the artist’s practice for the past twelve years.
