Rationale and Analysis

Why We Measure This

To protect our water, the regional water monitoring network collects data to find changes in surface fresh water. These changes can come from pollution from certain places, general areas, or from the decline in the health of the watershed. This information helps people make smart decisions about managing water.

How We Measure It

The Regional District of Nanaimo’s (RDN) Drinking Water and Watershed Protection program provides information on the number and locations of sites selected for monitoring within the City’s boundary and collects water testing results at those locations each year. The RDN staff also help interpret the results and check to make sure the water samples at those sites meet BC Water Quality Guidelines.
