Checkout Bag Regulation Newsletter

The City of Nanaimo is dedicated in taking a leadership role to protect our natural environment and municipal infrastructure. We are keen to reduce the impact that plastic checkout bags have in our community and beyond.

Starting July 1, 2021 all businesses within the City of Nanaimo that provide checkout bags to customers will be regulated by Checkout Bag Regulation Bylaw 2020 No. 7283. For a successful transition, the Checkout Bag Regulation Newsletter will provide businesses information on phasing out plastic checkout bags, preparing paper and reusable bag inventories, access to a toolkit to inform your staff and customers, and other updates and resources.
