Public Engagement Pilot Program

The City is planning a new community engagement program and is working with a group of residents and members from Council to develop the program which will consist of four engagement sessions over the course of one year. After the year is up, the results and feedback from the sessions will be reviewed and recommendations will be brought to Council.

Session #3 - Homelessness: How do we increase understanding and move towards action?
The third session will focus on finding a solution through collaboration. It will begin with a panel of speakers from the community bringing their perspective on the topic of homelessness. After that, you will work together to solve the problem, "How do we increase understanding and move towards action?" 

Homelessness is a divisive topic and one of the goals of this session is to try to find some commonalities we share so we can work together as a community to take action. Some rules will apply to participating in this session with the most important being respectful of one another and differing views others may have. To guide us through this topic will be facilitator, Dyan Dunsmoor-Farley of Wave Consulting Ltd

Sessions #1 and 2 - Complete
The Community Engagement Task Force, members of City Council and staff held the first session of the Public Engagement Pilot Program on Thursday, November 23, 2017 in the Vancouver Island Conference Centre. It featured an Open Space Technology format. 

The second session was held on Thursday, April 26, 2018 in the Beban Park Social Centre. The format featured a Micro Town Hall format, a concept developed by the Community Engagement Task Force.
