Core Services Review Presented
The findings of the Core Services review were presented to Council last night. The report noted that operationally, Nanaimo does very well providing municipal services that are largely of high quality and address community needs. However, opportunities
do exist for the City to better align its activities around a clear vision and strategic plan while also improving its corporate structure, control policies, external relationships and its ability to raise revenue and save on costs. The report is
broken into 11 areas containing over 100 recommendations. The next steps will include developing strategies to implement recommendations and receiving feedback from the union and public. The final report is available to read on the City website:

Substance abuse and Misuse
Council received an update from Dr. Paul Hasselback about drug and alcohol reductions and increases on Vancouver Island. Details included data on how Nanaimo compares to other island communities. Of note is the decrease in tobacco use and increase in
alcohol use.

Water main tender
Council was advised of an upcoming tender call for the replacement of a water main and sewer line at Garner Crescent and Emery Way.
