Canada 150 celebrations get budget boost
The Canada Day 150 planning committee received $75,000 in additional funding to go towards the legacy show “Bathtubs and Black Stones”, Canada Day events and fireworks.

Hotel Feasibility Study updated
An update to clarify the feasibility study for a hotel on 100 Gordon Street was presented to Council. In it, the section recommending a repurpose to the Municipal and Regional District Tax was removed and the methodology for generating room nights and economic impact numbers was clarified as being based on standard industry assumptions. Section 7 a
Information was received.

Development around Nanaimo
The proposed affordable housing complex at 1406 Bowen Road was approved with variances to setbacks, landscaping and parking requirements. The 25 unit development will be run by the Nanaimo Aboriginal Centre.

A new 5-storey medical office building will go up at 1515 Dufferin Crescent with variances to setbacks, lot coverage, landscaping, building height and loading space requirements.

A new single family home and carriage house will be built at 429 Milton Street with variances to the maximum lot coverage and minimum rear and side yard setbacks.

The site of Supertech Vehicle Inspections at 4321 Boban Drive will have a new look with approval to have two signs installed – one on the front of the building and a free standing one on the property.

Travel grant awarded for bowler 
An athlete from the BC Old Age Pensioners’ Organizations received a $100 Travel Grant to attend the Bowls World Indoor Singles Cup in Warilla, New South Wales, Australia.
