Explore YOUR PARKS AND TRAILS • BOWEN PARK DISC GOLF COURSE: A popular amenity since it was built in the 1990s, a new course design will be built this spring. The new design was created in partnership between the City of Nanaimo and the Nanaimo Disc Golf Club with the goal of modernizing the course and improving playability. Once complete, the new course will offer players a fresh new challenge to enjoy and will alleviate some safety concerns with the existing course. • WESTWOOD LAKE: If you haven’t visited the improved park, you need to go this spring and summer! There is an expanded and accessible beach, additional seating and picnic areas, enhanced pedestrian and bike connections, universal washrooms, public art and more! Phase 3 for improvements will take place next year where improvements will take place to improve accessibility between First and Second Beach. Lifeguards are at First Beach daily from June 28 to September 7 from 12-5:30 pm. • E&N TRAIL EXPANSION: One of Nanaimo’s most popular trails has grown recently. The trail now has an additional kilometre that runs from Fifth to Seventh Street. That makes this important corridor approximately 9 kilometres within the City of Nanaimo. Look for future trail developments along the E&N Railway. • NEW PAVING & NECK POINT ENCHANTED GROVE: Paving was completed at both Neck Point Park and Serauxmen Stadium for the parking lots. Check out Neck Point Park and visit the upgraded Enchanted Grove where fairies and gnomes are said to be regular visitors. • ENVIRONMENTAL RESTORATION: Staff have been out planting trees to increase our tree canopy and working to reduce invasive plants while restoring native plants in the parks and along the trails. Land has been purchased in the Chase River neighbourhood for a future community centre with trail connections! Stay tuned for more details on this exciting project in the near future. • IMPROVING BEACH ACCESSIBILITY: There are year-round mobi mats available at Westwood Lake, Loudon Park, Colliery Dam Park, Neck Point Park and Departure Bay Beach.
