Public invited to open house for Greater Nanaimo Water District Lands

Summary

The City of Nanaimo will be hosting an open house on the future use of the Greater Nanaimo Water District Lands on Saturday, December 3. The intent of this public session is to receive input on the future uses for these public lands located on Nanaimo Lakes Road.

At the open house, residents will learn about the lands, their current uses, development challenges, biological assessment and planning policy. They will also have the opportunity to provide input on what they would like to see these lands used for.

Strategic Link: The process to determine the future use of the Greater Nanaimo Water District Lands supports Community Partnerships.

Key Points

  • The Open House will be held in the Parks Operations Annex Building at 1151 Nanaimo Lakes Road from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 3.
  • During the open house, guided walks and demonstrations will be provided by Nanaimo Search and Rescue, Nanaimo Fish and Game Club, Vancouver Island University and Nanaimo Mountain Bike Club.
  • This will be the first of two open houses to share background information on the properties and to hear from the public on possible uses for these lands. Another is planned for January 2017.

Quotes

"Our first open house will provide a chance for the public to learn more about the historical uses and special features of these public lands and we hope this will help encourage residents to provide their input into how we use these lands for years to come."
