City of Nanaimo manages storm events

Preparation in advance has City staff on top of the storm

Summary

City of Nanaimo staff began early preparation work so that all systems would remain in place during the three fall storms that the City experienced. Pre planning and precautionary actions enabled staff to be at the ready to respond immediately with all the resources and people in place should the events escalate.

Staffing included members from Fire Rescue, RCMP, Public Works, Senior Management, Emergency Management, Information Technology Department, as well as many volunteer and private organizations including but not limited to Coast Emergency Communications, Community Assistance program and Island Radio.

Extra staff were out during the evening managing downed wires, hydro lines on fire, blocking off roads, and monitoring City of Nanaimo utilities. Communications amongst the agencies and organizations were effective and efficient throughout the evening.
