Heavy rain weather systems expected in Nanaimo over next several days

Take care on trails and around waterways and clear drains around your house

Summary

With heavy rains and winds expected over the next several days, the City of Nanaimo would like to remind the public to be careful and use caution when using trails, boardwalks, stairs and bridges. Many of the trails and even playground equipment are wet and slippery this time of year. Caution should also be exercised around waterways. Heavy precipitation can lead to high and fast flowing streams and rivers. Parks and trails in Nanaimo could be closed temporarily if high winds and precipitation uproot trees and block pathways. This will allow work crews to clear debris and check the safety of the area.

Residents are also reminded to ensure their driveway culverts and private drains are clear of leaves and debris. Sandbags and sand are available to residents at the Public Works Yard at 2020 Labieux Rd. Please report any storm sewer back ups you may encounter to the Public Works Department.
