Suspicious downtown apartment fire displaces twelve

Fire contained to one suite, no injuries

Summary

At approximately 10pm Wednesday evening, Nanaimo Fire Rescue crews responded to a structure fire in an apartment at 25 Front Street. Upon arrival, fire was showing from a second floor apartment. The crews attacked the fire from the outside prior to entering the building and containing it to the one apartment.

The three story building suffered smoke and water damage throughout. Twelve residents were displaced as a result, and have been supported by the City's Community Assistance Program volunteers. There were no injuries.

The fire is suspicious in nature. Nanaimo Fire Rescue and RCMP are jointly investigating this incident.
