City to Celebrate Heritage Week with Annual Heritage Summit on February 20

Heritage groups gather to share information

On Wednesday, February 20, 2019, the City of Nanaimo will host the annual Heritage Summit at the Nanaimo Museum from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The summit's purpose is to heighten heritage awareness in the community during Provincial Heritage Week (February 17-23), and to network with other local organizations interested in heritage issues. Everyone is welcome to attend.

“One of the primary purposes of the Heritage Summit is to share information, and is therefore an excellent opportunity for local heritage groups to exchange information on their various projects and initiatives”, said Chris Sholberg, Culture & Heritage Planner.

  • THE TIES THAT BIND -- Enjoy a presentation by Ms. Christine Meutzner, Nanaimo Community Archivist, called “The Ties That Bind”, where she will discuss how Nanaimo’s many railways shaped our economy, neighbourhoods, and identities

  • NANAIMO MYSTERIES -- Ms. Aimee Greenaway, Nanaimo Museum Curator, will join us to share some highlights from the new feature exhibit 'Nanaimo Mysteries', including historic murders, a safe cracker, a forgotten ski hill and Cadborosaurus sea monster.

  • ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION -- Culture and heritage groups in attendance will share their mandate, recent accomplishments and upcoming projects.

If you wish to attend, please RSVP to cultureandheritage@nanaimo.ca or 250-755-4483 (prior to February 15, 2019).
