Council Announces 2019 Culture & Heritage Award Recipients

City to recognize excellence in culture and heritage

Each year, the City of Nanaimo recognizes individuals and groups that make Nanaimo a more culturally vibrant city. Council has approved the following recipients for the 2019 Culture & Heritage Awards:

HONOUR IN CULTURE - Mr. Dean Chadwick

The Honour in Culture Award honours groups, corporations or individuals that are known for their dedication and support of the development of the cultural fabric of Nanaimo.

EMERGING CULTURAL LEADER - Mr. Nico Rhodes

The Emerging Cultural Leader Award recognizes up-and-coming Nanaimo-based cultural leaders. The award recognizes that a thriving Nanaimo cultural community includes leaders who choose to live and contribute to the cultural life of Nanaimo.

HONOUR IN HERITAGE - Nanaimo Historical Society

The Honour in Heritage Award recognizes individuals, groups and corporations who demonstrate outstanding support, advocacy, promotion or interpretation of Nanaimo's heritage and history. This award category was created in 2018.

"These awards recognize the best of Nanaimo’s culture and heritage volunteers and creative talent", said Mayor Krog. "The work of these dedicated individuals contributes to our sense of cultural vitality and community pride. We are all proud of them."

Recognition of these recipients will take place at a special awards ceremony to be held at the Port Theatre on April 18, 2019. Tickets and ceremony details will be advertised prior to the event. Everyone is welcome to attend.
