Students invited to submit poems to the High School Poetry Contest

Theme: Out of the Darkness

The City of Nanaimo’s Youth Poet Laureate Kailey DeFehr invites students to submit to the 2018 High School Poetry Contest this spring.

"A poetry contest feels like a fantastic way to engage with youth in the city. I hope that this inspires them to put their work out there, because their voices really do matter," said Kailey DeFehr.

The theme of this year’s contest is Out of Darkness. This may be taken as literally or as figuratively as you wish. The winner will receive a cash prize, and will be announced Friday, June 1, 2018. The first place cash prize will be in the amount of $100. Second and third place contestants will each receive $50. There is no entry fee. The deadline for poetry submissions is Monday, April 30, 2018.

Full guidelines and submission details can be found online at www.nanaimo.ca, or attached to this news release.
