Residents are Reminded to keep their Water Meter Boxes Clear

The City of Nanaimo User Rates Department would like to remind residents that they are responsible for keeping their water meters clear and accessible. At all times, City staff must have easy access to water meters so that they can be read and maintained.

During winter months, snow can become an issue as people shovel their driveways. In the summer, the growth of hedges and blackberry bushes can create a hazard for City staff trying to access the water meter. Other items that often obstruct the meter box include parked vehicles and yard materials covering the box such as rocks, stepping stones or gravel.

"Resident's cooperation in keeping the access to their water meters clear is very much appreciated," says Diane Hiscock, Manager of Revenue Services. "This ensures quick access in the event of a water leak and for reading purposes."
