RCMP Incident at City Hall

Last week, due to an incident at City Hall, the RCMP made an arrest, and we understand that they have also initiated an ongoing investigation. The City has and will continue to cooperate fully to support the RCMP as needed and will also undertake an independent investigation.

“We take this incident very seriously. Thanks to the professional response of our staff, we remain confident in the safety of our municipal hall and our ability to provide ongoing services and support to residents and businesses here in Nanaimo,” said Mayor Bill McKay.

Given the ongoing Island District RCMP investigation, it would be inappropriate and potentially disruptive for the City to make any further comment on this incident. The RCMP will also lead communications regarding their ongoing investigation.

“The City of Nanaimo has policies and procedures in place to safeguard a respectful and supportive workplace, and to reflect the values and priorities of our residents,” said Acting Mayor Jerry Hong.
