Island Health, City work on overdose prevention site
The establishment of an overdose prevention site in Nanaimo is in the works with the City and Island Health working together to determine the best location for it. Island Health will continue to work with the Federal Government in the establishment of a permanent safe injection site in Nanaimo. In the meantime the pop-up site will continue to operate at 455 Wallace Street.

Events Centre Phase 3 underway
Work is underway for Phase 3 of the proposed Events Centre project. During this phase staff will work on a number of items including a procurement and financing framework, electoral approval process, detailed design approval, project management and legal agreements.

The public will be kept informed on this project through a household mail-out, an informational website and public open houses to be held in various locations throughout Nanaimo.

Community-minded residents are being sought for Council’s Select Committees. If you are interested in volunteering on a committee, the deadline to apply is Monday, January 30 at noon.

Development updates
The Nanaimo Volkswagen dealership will get freshened up with Council giving approval to build a new showroom on their property located at 4931 Wellington Road.

Financial Plan adopted
Council adopted the 2017-2021 Financial Plan. Adopting the plan means the City can start work on 2017 programs and capital projects.
