2017 Non-Election Assent Voting
"Assent voting" includes voting on a bylaw or other matter for which assent of the electors is required or for which the local government is authorized to obtain the assent of the electors. It is often conducted in conjunction with general local elections, but may take place at other times as well.
To ensure fairness, openness, and accessibility, local elections and assent voting are conducted in accordance with very strict rules. The rules and procedures are set out in Part 4 of the Local Government Act and in the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act and associated regulations. Other legislation: Community Charter.
